Local Law 126

At GC Metro Group, we are thrilled to announce our new Parapet Inspection Services tailored for Local Law 126 compliance for building owners and property management firms across NYC. 

Why Parapet Inspections Matter

A parapet is the portion of a building’s wall that extends above the roofline. Over time, these structures can weaken and pose significant safety risks to people and property below. To address these concerns, New York City now requires annual parapet inspections. This law took effect on January 1, 2024, under Section 28-301.1.1 of the NYC Administrative Code. Building owners must ensure their parapets are inspected each year and verified to be structurally sound.

Parapet Inspection Services

Annual Parapet Observations: Performed to determine if your parapet is classified as Safe or Unsafe under NYC regulations.


Building Information: Address, owner name, mailing address, phone number, and/or principal’s name and title.


Inspector Credentials: Name, business name, contact information, and professional affiliation.


Photographic Documentation: Clear photos showing the current condition of the parapet.


Construction Details: Dimensions and construction details of the parapet.


Observation Date & Location Plan: A site diagram or sketch indicating the parapet(s) observed.


Condition Assessment: A clear summary of findings, including any identified hazards.


Remediation Plan: Recommendations and next steps for addressing Unsafe conditions, if applicable.


Repair History: Documentation of any parapet repairs completed since the previous observation.

Compliance Support

We ensure reports are prepared for retention (minimum of 6 years) and are readily available for Department of Buildings (DOB) requests.

Action for Unsafe Conditions

If an unsafe parapet is identified, we promptly notify the building owner/manager and DOB as required by Section 103-15(b)(4) and assist with protective measures (e.g., sidewalk sheds, fencing, or safety netting). We will also guide you through repairs, which must be completed within 90 days of notification.
